This is a question I have been reflecting on these past few months.โฃโฃ

Growing up, I believed that the longer I know someone, the better we are as friends.โฃ

So my focus was often on making friendships last. To give them a sense of permanence.โฃ

This past weekend, I was challenged to think differently. To get a whole new perspective on Friendship.โฃ

โฃTurns out that, the same question was brewing in the mind of another friend too.โฃ

When she posed this question to the larger group whoโ€™d gathered for Game-night at my place, I listened intently, curious to hear the perspectives in the room.

โฃThe questions and thoughts that were shared next, blew my mind!โฃ

  • Do friendships have to last long? Or be permanent? for them to be meaningful?โฃ
  • What if a temporary friendship was the road to permanence?โฃ
  • What if the permanence of your friendship lies in the FEELING you get every time you meet your friend?โฃ And not in how often you connect?
  • What if losing control of all outcomes and expectations, only allows your friendship to go deeper, even thrive?โฃ

Listening to each one of these questions and answering them for myself, helped me gain so much clarity!โฃ

โฃI am learning that Friendships are like the Seasons in a year. โฃ

โฃEvery season is temporary โ€” it only lasts the duration itโ€™s meant for.โฃ

Yet, seasons by their very nature are permanent. โฃ

Itโ€™s not about how long your friendship lasts, but how deeply you enjoy it while it does.โฃ

โฃItโ€™s about creating Moments of Meaning in the time you spend together.โฃ

โฃThese Moments are often created by;โฃ

  • Finding your common interests and passions;
  • Engaging in meaningful conversations;
  • Sharing your thoughts, feelings, and emotions;
  • Living new experiences, together.

Itโ€™s about saying HELL YES to each other while creating new memories together.

Moments of magic with two of my best friends โ€” Seerat and Deepak

So grateful to have friends who teach me more about Friendship, every day!
